The Learners' Single Point of Access (L-SPA) offers help and support if you have a concern about the development and/or learning needs of a child in Surrey.

Both parents and practitioners working with children in Surrey are welcome to call the L-SPA.

It is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, all year round (except Bank Holidays) on 0300 200 1015.

ACCESS TO GENERAL ADVICE AND SUPPORT THROUGH AN OUT OF HOURS ADVICE LINE FOR NEURODEVELOPMENTAL SUPPORT

(0300 222 5755), WHICH IS AVAILABLE FROM 5PM -11PM, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK, 365 DAYS A YEAR.

The L-SPA will:

• Aim to answer your call within 20 seconds.
• Will give children the right support and intervention at the right time to help them meet their learning and developmental milestones.
• Gives you direct access to information and advice from a multi-disciplinary team of professionals from education, health and social care including:
  • Occupational therapists
  • Specialist teachers
  • Qualified Social Worker
  • Speech and Language Therapists
  • Educational Psychologists

• The L-SPA will not:

• Replace any existing referrals to learner services for the child in question.

• If you are working with a child or young person in Surrey and you have concerns about their learning and/ or development, we recommend phoning the L-SPA helpline with your query. However, if your query is very complex, you may wish to contact the L-SPA using the Learners' Request for Support (0 to 25 years) form.

  Any concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child or young person must be made to the Children's Single Point of Access (C-SPA).

MINDWORKS

Following Mindworks closing their referral route, from March 2023 they have now extended the school consultation offer, and are now offering this support to a wider range of children and young people, and their families. Under the extended offer, schools can now contact the team to request a formal consultation in the following situations:

• Where the school is supporting a child or young person experiencing high levels of distress, that is impacting on their behaviour and ability to participate in school.
• Where the school is supporting a child or young person whose attendance is below 70% (this would trigger a safeguarding referral) and has been referred to (or has self-referred to) early help and where support has been provided.
• Where the school is supporting a child or young person who is already known to mental health and specialist services and whose neurodevelopmental needs require more urgent interventions.
• For children and young people who are being home schooled and are on school roll and where the CYP is experiencing high levels of distress, that is impacting on their behaviour and ability to participate in learning, consultations can be booked by school.

In these situations, schools can book a consultation by calling the neurodevelopmental service on 0300 222 5856.

Through these consultations a joint agreement may result in taking a child or young person into diagnostic triage for diagnosis.

Each school can book a one-hour slot per month which will enable them to consult on two children or young people.
